A review of "The Happening" by M. Night Shyamalan

First let me say that i am, indeed, reading "Reliquary" as promised. School work has been a bit rough this semester, but i am getting through it. I think its an excellent book so far.

This is just a little thing to let all 0 of my readers know that i'm alive :)

First, i recently saw the movie 'The Happening'. I was expecting big things, being a fan of Mr. Shyamalan's. I can't really say that the movie delivered, nor did it disappoint. Mr. Shyamalan has made a career out of the 'twist' in stories and he does it at least as well as anyone currently alive. The twist in this movie was unexpected, and thoroughly appreciated. The best scares are the ones that are possible in real life, and while the concept of this movie is highly unlikely, it is, nevertheless, a true possibility that the events may one day occur.

In all, i would give this movie 3 out of 5 stars. Great story, great execution. I felt that the elements included in making this movie an 'r' rating though were a contrived sales gimick in order to boost interest in the movie. This movie could have been told just as well with a PG-13 rating, and a lesser amount of death and gore. However this movie didnt receive full credit because i expect better from M Night. Mr. Shyamalan, take an extra bit of time next time and make your next movie the incredible blockbuster you have stewing in the back of your mind, instead of a slightly above average outing.
